BIG BREAK ON 215!!!

2/27/2020

One of the brighter spots in the effort to reform Section 215 – the provision that gives the government easy access to some of our most personal information held by businesses – came at 1 PM when President Trump retweeted Rep. Jim Jordan, “Now is our chance to fix it.” In these seven words, the president definitively broke with Attorney General Barr, who wanted a “clean” or unreformed extension of Section 215. Lindsey Graham, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, supports a short-term extension to extend debate. All good news – as long the extension stays short. The House and Senate need to wrap up this measure before the distraction of the coming elections kicks into full gear.
