CBS: Declassified footnotes shed new light on FBI’s surveillance of Trump campaign

4/27/2020

Catherine Herridge of CBS News gives a thorough tutorial about what went wrong in the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation – and what is at stake for all Americans.

The recently declassified footnotes from DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report show evidence that some of the information in the FBI’s FISA surveillance filings against Trump campaign adviser Carter Page came from Russian intelligence.

Noting this, Herridge says:

“The goal of the Russians with a disinformation campaign is to undermine confidence in U.S. government institutions – the democratic process, the electoral process, the office of the presidency. It’ not so much about one candidate or one party over another. It’s about damaging and tainting Americans’ views about whether the democratic process really works.”
